Monday, May 19

I know that this is a longer email, but PLEASE take time to read it all the way through, carefully.  We have a lot going on these last few days of school and this email is filled with important updates!

During this special week we are in need of a few donations.

  • Plastic grocery bags - We will need these for tie dying and water balloons.  If you have any plastic bags at home that you could spare, please send them in right away.
  • Time - If anyone is available on Thursday at 1:30 we need your help to fill water balloons for our first ever water wars. (See more info below.)
  • Snacks - we are running low on classroom snacks and I want to thank Joanna Nevins' family for consistently sending in class snacks.

Overview of the week:

Tuesday - We will tour CBIS in the morning, Tie dye shirts, and finish our Wander Indiana Presentations in the afternoon.

Wednesday - This is our Indiana State Museum field trip.  We will leave at 8:00 in the morning and won't return until close to dismissal. All studnets should bring a sack lunch with drink.  All containers need to be disposable.  If you send a plastic container we will assume you want it thrown away when it is empty. Our chaperones are Sandra Roeser, Sarah Wagaman, Curt Holcroft, and Scott Work.

Thursday - This is our Book Beat field trip.  Permission slips will be coming home tomorrow.  This is not a mandatory field trip.  Only the students who have prepared for the competition will be going.  Saddly, there are a few students that are not prepared at this time.  Please have the conversation with your child to find out how they are progressing on their book beat books.  Any student who does not choose to participate will be assigned to another classroom for the day so they can have extra time to read.  It is important to meet the reading requirements because the are also part of the 4th grade curriculum.  Any parent who has completed a background check is welcome and encouraged to join us for book-beat.  We are also looking for any parent volunteers who can stay after the field trip to help fill up water balloons (see Friday).

Friday - Field Day and Water Wars.  Any parent with a completed background check is welcome to join us for this festive day.  Field Day is a Needham tradition that all students look forward to. Water Wars is something new this year.  All 3rd and 4th grade teachers challenged the students to show their educational growth. For each point a student went up between Winter and Spring on NWEA they earned a piece of duct tape.  Students will use that tape to tape their teachers to the wall during lunch on Tuesday May 28.  For every 5 points they grew in NWEA they get a water balloon.  On field day we will have our first ever Bulldog Academy Water Wars.  Students who have earned water balloons will get to participate in the water balloon fight.  (Our students grew A LOT!  So we need your help filling water Balloons on Thursday at 1:30.)
