Once Team33, Always Team33!
Wow!  This is the hardest post I have had to write!  I am sitting alone in my room, with out the smiles that brighten each of my day.  Knowing that the kids - many that have been with me for 2 years now - will not be returning...well, it makes my heart ache.  They are a big part of my life and I will miss them all terribly!!

At the same time, all I can do is smile with PRIDE at what great students we are sending to CBIS!  Your students will bring such laughter, love and value to CBIS. CBIS is ready for them and they are most definitly ready for CBIS!

With all that said, I just want to reinforce our sincere saying, "Once TEAM33, Always TEAM33!" So if ever you have the chance to stop back by the classroom or join in on a future Dinner Date, please don't hesitate!!  You will always be welcome.

Monday, May 19

I know that this is a longer email, but PLEASE take time to read it all the way through, carefully.  We have a lot going on these last few days of school and this email is filled with important updates!

During this special week we are in need of a few donations.

  • Plastic grocery bags - We will need these for tie dying and water balloons.  If you have any plastic bags at home that you could spare, please send them in right away.
  • Time - If anyone is available on Thursday at 1:30 we need your help to fill water balloons for our first ever water wars. (See more info below.)
  • Snacks - we are running low on classroom snacks and I want to thank Joanna Nevins' family for consistently sending in class snacks.

Overview of the week:

Tuesday - We will tour CBIS in the morning, Tie dye shirts, and finish our Wander Indiana Presentations in the afternoon.

Wednesday - This is our Indiana State Museum field trip.  We will leave at 8:00 in the morning and won't return until close to dismissal. All studnets should bring a sack lunch with drink.  All containers need to be disposable.  If you send a plastic container we will assume you want it thrown away when it is empty. Our chaperones are Sandra Roeser, Sarah Wagaman, Curt Holcroft, and Scott Work.

Thursday - This is our Book Beat field trip.  Permission slips will be coming home tomorrow.  This is not a mandatory field trip.  Only the students who have prepared for the competition will be going.  Saddly, there are a few students that are not prepared at this time.  Please have the conversation with your child to find out how they are progressing on their book beat books.  Any student who does not choose to participate will be assigned to another classroom for the day so they can have extra time to read.  It is important to meet the reading requirements because the are also part of the 4th grade curriculum.  Any parent who has completed a background check is welcome and encouraged to join us for book-beat.  We are also looking for any parent volunteers who can stay after the field trip to help fill up water balloons (see Friday).

Friday - Field Day and Water Wars.  Any parent with a completed background check is welcome to join us for this festive day.  Field Day is a Needham tradition that all students look forward to. Water Wars is something new this year.  All 3rd and 4th grade teachers challenged the students to show their educational growth. For each point a student went up between Winter and Spring on NWEA they earned a piece of duct tape.  Students will use that tape to tape their teachers to the wall during lunch on Tuesday May 28.  For every 5 points they grew in NWEA they get a water balloon.  On field day we will have our first ever Bulldog Academy Water Wars.  Students who have earned water balloons will get to participate in the water balloon fight.  (Our students grew A LOT!  So we need your help filling water Balloons on Thursday at 1:30.)

Monday, May 5

It's finally here!  This week we get to show what we know on ISTEP!  Tomorrow will be Math ISTEP, Wednesday is Literacy ISTEP, and Thursday is Science ISTEP.  We are ready to OWN IT!

Tonight students need to eat healthy, relax, rest, and of course READ!   Book Beat is right around the corner for those that choose to go.  Remember students must pass quizzes for 5 (1 picture book, 3 chapter books, and 1 read-a-loud Across Five Aprils.)  Students that do not meet this requirement will not go on the competition filed trip.  We will do everything we can to help each child be successful, but they must do the work.  To find out if your child is on track for attending the field trip, ask them how many Book Beat books they have passed.  To be on track they should have already passed a minimum of 2 books.

ISTEP and Book Beat are just two of the many events going on this month.  Please be sure to keep updated by visiting our TEAM 33 Calendar.

Thursday, May 1

What a great way to start May!  We had a fun filled day of education.  We worked on out learning objectives:

  • Evaluating author's purpose
  • Catagorizing text by generes and subgenres
  • Differentiate between complex and compound sentences
  • Comprehend and use the Week 17-18 Word packet word parts and words
Tomorrow we will take the Week 35 ExamView assessment over these objectives.
Tomorrow is also the due date for the Wander Indiana Visual Plan. Because I will not be at school tomorrow, students may have until Monday with no penelty for being late.

Have a great evening! And a great weekend!  I will see everyone on Monday!

Monday - ISTEP Practice
Tuesday - ISTEP Math
Wednesday - ISTEP Literacy
Thursday - ISTEP Science
