Monday, March 23

Tonight for homework students have a multiplication worksheet and their Feedback and Data Binder (FBD) Reflection page. When looking through the FDB be sure to:

  • Review the 3rd Grading Period Report
  • Look at the Week 30 Data and Graph
  • Evaluate how they did on the 3rd Grading Period Reading Goal
  • Look through the Week 30 Test to review wring answers and recognize areas of strength.
If any student wishes to improve their Week 30 assessment score they have two options.
Option 1:  If it was mainly the Cause and Effect they struggled with, they can redo number 19-21.
Option 2: If the word parts also caused them to struggle, they can retake the entire test during recess tomorrow. They just need to study tonight.
Either way, I will regrade and change the score accordingly.

Tomorrow is the school Spelling Bee and the 4th grade Digital Library Day.  Students are encouraged (but not required) to bring their digital reading devices to school, along with their library card.  For more information please review the linked flyer.

Sunday, March 22

We have a fun filled week coming up! Here are a few notes to keep you up to date:

Monday: In Literacy we will be continuing our research and leaning how to use Google Maps to find directions to our Wander Indiana Site and save them to our Google Drive Accounts.  We will also be creating shared folders to store our research findings.

Tuesday:  We start with the Needham Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Jadyn Doss, Ava Stillabower, Aiden Pemberton, and John Shepard. We are proud to have you representing TEAM33.
Tuesday is also our Digital Library Day.  Students should bring digital reading devices and their library card. The librarians will show us how to access and download free reading materials on your device using the 3M library app They are also setting up a Young Hoosier Book list for students to read right from their devices. Remember, parents are welcome to participate!  And as with any online application, we highly recommend you monitor what books your child downloads to their device.

Wednesday:  Today we will focus on writing letters to our Wander Indiana Sites.  Please be sure your child has turned in their stamp for the project.
Please note: Due to a scheduling conflict there will not be Learning Continued after school this Wednesday.

Thursday:  Dr. Seuss Day - Fourth graders are partnering with Head Start preschool students to participate in a day full of engaging and educational activities based on our favorite Dr. Seuss Books. Big thanks goes to PI Beta Phi Sorority for organizing and leading the activities. Students will be having a picnic style lunch with the preschoolers. They are welcome to bring their own sack lunch or purchase one from the cafeteria.

Spring Break begins at the end of the school day on Thursday.

Wednesday, March 18

Today we had some special visitors.  The CBIS counselors came to talk to us about our upcoming adventurer as 5th Graders.  It was very exciting and we learned a lot about the changes that are in store for next year.  All students are also bringing home a paper that gives us a choice for next year.  We need to choose between joining Choir and participating in other explorations such as PE, Art, Music and World Cultures.  Please fill the for out and return it as soon as possible.  Choir is on a first come, first served basis.

Tonight we should also be studying our Word parts and doing Study Link 9-7 for Math.

Don't forget, the Spring Carnival is just 2 days away!  TEAM33 is putting together a fishing basket and could still use more supplies.  If you are able to donate any fishing gear, it will be greatly appreciated.

Monday, March 9

Today we introduced several new and exciting projects and activities for the last nine weeks.  They all focus on a study of Indiana.

  • Ag Day Field trip: Monday, March 16th Did you know Indiana's top five agricultural products are corn for grain, soybeans, hogs, dairy products, and chicken eggs. Corn and soybeans are Indiana's most valuable farm products and Indiana is a leading producer among the states. We will learn more about Indiana's agriculture during this exciting adventure. Click here for permission slip.
  • Wonder Indiana Research Project: Students are bringing home an overview of this top rated state wide project.  Please review the overview with them.  Then sign and return the parent acknowledgment form. Click here for link to Form
  • Young Hoosier Book Awards: Our 4th grade will be participating in the Young Hoosier Book Award program this year. They will be among hundreds of Hoosier students who will honor their favorite books with this prestigious award.  To participate we will be reading the books from the nominated lists.  If you have a digital reading device that you would like students to use for reading, or if you are just planning on stopping by the book store, these are great books to purchase! Click here for the reading list.
  • INDY 500 Field Trip: Another exciting Indiana adventure that we did not have a chance to talk about is a Field Trip to the Indianapolis Speedway in May.  More details will be coming soon.
Homework tonight is to review this information with parents and get the needed signatures.

Friday, March 6

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES!  Today was absolutely a good time! We have finished our Applied Skills portion of the ISTEP. We also rearranged desks.  The students always get to arrange the room for the last 9 weeks.  I am always impressed with what a good job they do!

Next week we are back to our regular routine. We will not have Feedback and Data Binders on Monday, but you should look for a Literacy Link and the new set of Word Parts.

Students will have until Wednesday to complete their Reading Counts goal.  Many students have passed their goal way up! Many students achieved their goal just today. A few students still will need to read A LOT this weekend to make their goal.  Be sure to have a conversation with your child to know how they are doing on their goal.
3rd 9 Weeks Reading Goal: 5 Chapter books all at increasing Lexile.
6+ books = A+
5 books = A
4 books = B
3 books = C
2 books = D
1 book = F

Another great day with TEAM33!  Today we took Session 1 of ISTEP and we OWNED IT. I was quite proud and pleased to see how hard the students worked.  Please encourage them to continue giving their best, because their best IS good enough!

As a stress reliever the last few days we have been playing Akinator on the IPAD.  It has quickly became the students' all time favorite pastime.  You will be hooked too! Just think of a person and click the link to play the online version or download the app. http://en.akinator.com/

Monday, March 2

Congratulations to Peyton!  He has a new baby sister!
Today was a great day for TEAM33.  It felt like one of the first days in a while we actually got to spend the whole day together!  Although, there is already talk about the winter weather advisory coming in tonight, so keep an ear out for the weather.

Because of all the weather delays a few things have changed that you should be aware of:

1.  The end of the 3rd grading period will now be on Wednesday, March 11th. Report cards will go home on Friday, March 13.

2. There will be no Learning Continued after school on Wednesday. We are concerned about the predicted weather, but more importantly we are concerned of overloading their brains during ISTEP week.  It is a strenuous week and we want them to get as much rest as possible.

Tomorrow we will be taking Session 1 of the ISTEP.  It consists of applied skills mathematics problems.  Students will be expected to solve and answer multiple step problems while showing all their work - just like they have done all year long.  They should not be worried!  They can do this!  Their best IS good enough.  They will OWN IT!!
